SALEM, S.D. (KELO) — Elk Point-Jefferson and Dell Rapids both picked up victories in the Class ‘B’ Legion baseball state tournament Saturday to advance in the winner’s bracket.
EPJ knocked off Parkston 10-6. After Post 194 scored two in the top of the first, Post 134 knotted the game in the bottom half. Parkston retook the lead with three in the third. The Elk Point-Jefferson bats came to life in the fourth when they pushed five runs across to surge in front.
Dells defeated Salem/Montrose/Canova 8-3 in the nightcap. SMC jumped on top right out of the gate with two in the top of the first. In the bottom of the third, Post 65 scored four runs to take its first lead at 5-2. The Phils added three more insurance runs in the sixth.
Elk Point-Jefferson and Dell Rapids will now meet in the winner’s bracket Sunday at 6 p.m.
