SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sioux Empire Fair staff encourage everyone to visit this year’s fair, but they’re also reminding customers to be on the lookout for fake tickets.

“Somebody was looking for tickets online and called asking which level of ticket to buy because they were on a completely different website with higher prices. And like I said, we don’t know if those tickets are legitimate or not,” Kandi Cornford with Sioux Empire Fair Marketing said.

Fair staff recommends buying tickets directly from their website. The Better Business Bureau said nowadays fake tickets are easy to duplicate because they’re bought online.

“You just have a piece of paper with a barcode on it. They can print that ticket, resell it how many times, and the first person to the venue as the winner,” Jessie Schmidt with the Better Business Bureau said.

Cornford said if you purchase tickets from another source, the fair can’t guarantee they’re real.

“We recommend buying them directly from Sioux Empire fair dot com. Or you can buy them on grounds here at the information booth or the gates when you come in,” Cornford said.

The Better Business Bureau suggests using a protected form of payment as well when making an online purchase.

“If you bought those tickets from somebody, you charge it on your credit card, you get to the gate and they’re fake, then you perhaps have an opportunity to dispute a claim with your credit card company because you were not delivered what was promised to you,” Schmidt said.
