STURGIS, S.D. (KELO) –The 84th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally officially kicked off today.
Over at the Buffalo Chip they began all of their events, including the 1st of 13 bike show competitions this week.
Greg Bakel rode all the way up from Arizona to show off his bike for another year.
“We decided to come back. We won the Spirit of Sturgis award in Colorado and that’s how we came back up here. We’re gonna stay up at the Buffalo Chip and be part of the show itself now,” Rally Rider Greg Bakel said.
Full Throttle Magazine Florida got things kicked off this year with the first bike show of the week.
“Woody and the staff have been amazing to us. We come from Tampa, Florida. They welcome us here, we have a great time, we get to stay all week and so I get to do my bike show first and then I get to enjoy all the other bike shows coming up,” Events Coordinator Charlie Humphries said.
What’s unique about these 13 different bike shows at the Buffalo Chip Is that over the next week each best in show winner will go head to head against each other next Friday, to find out which bike is truly the best here at the Buffalo Chip.
These riders have been working hard to have their bikes stand out.
“So we’ve kept as much stuff off of it. No front brake, you know, we don’t have when you do the clutch and everything, we don’t have a clutch on the bars or anything like that. So we try to make it as slick as we can,” Bakel said.
“We’re open, so if you just have a bike you love to ride, you want to show it off, bring it on out, we have a class for you. If you didn’t put all the money into it but you have still done a little extra work to it, come on up, we have that,” Humphries said.
The Buffalo Chip will be hosting a few bike show competitions each day over the next week.
