The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US capitol is made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans.
It is chaired by Bennie Thompson, a Democratic congressman from Mississippi, a Capitol Hill veteran who is also chair of the House committee on homeland security.
The other members are:
Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, was first elected to the house in 2000. He rose to national prominence as a House prosecutor during then-President Donald Trump’s first Senate impeachment trial. He is also the chair of the House intelligence committee.
Zoe Lofgren, a Democrat from Northern California, has been a member of the House since 1995. She was a member of the House judiciary committee for Trump’s impeachments as well as the 1998 impeachment hearing of former President Bill Clinton.
Elaine Luria, a Democrat from Virginia, spent two decades in the US Navy before running for Congress. She serves as a representative for Virginia’s second district, which includes the US Navy’s biggest base in Norfolk.
Peter Aguilar, a Democrat from California, is a member of the party’s leadership in the House as vice-chair of the Democratic caucus. Aguilar served as mayor of Redlands, California before being elected to the House in 2014.
Stephanie Murphy, a Democrat from Florida, represents the state’s Orlando-based seventh district. A former Pentagon staffer who is regarded as a leading congressional moderate, she recently announced she will not seek re-election this year.
Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, is a Harvard Law graduate who led the congressional prosecution team during the second impeachment of former president Donald Trump.
Liz Cheney, the leading Republican on the panel who has come under withering attack by her party’s pro-Trump wing for her participation in the proceedings. The Wyoming lawmaker and daughter of former vice-president Dick Cheney was one of only 10 Republicans to vote to impeach Trump for his role in the attack on the US Capitol.
Adam Kinzinger, the Republican lawmaker from Illinois, who joined Cheney to vote for Trump’s impeachment for his role in instigating the attack on the Capitol. Like Cheney, he has become a pariah within the House Republican caucus, and will not to seek re-election in the fall.
