People in the central part of South Dakota interested in learning some of the basics about agriculture now have the opportunity to take courses in Pierre thanks to a collaboration between South Dakota State University and the Capital City Campus.
Dr. Teresa Seefeldt is the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at SDSU. She says their College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences is offering an Associate degree in agricultural science….and the first cohort begins Aug. 26, 2024.
Seefeldt says the 60-credit-hour program provides students with an introductory education in agriculture, enabling graduates to qualify for career opportunities in production agriculture or entry-level business and sales positions.
And, Seefeldt says, the Associate degree courses can easily be transitioned into a bachelor’s degree program at SDSU.
The program– which, again, begins Aug. 26– will be delivered via a combination of online instruction and interactive distance learning technology at the Capital City Campus. Students will have access to the support staff and services available through SDSU’s Office of Continuing and Distance Education and via the Capital City Campus team.

The South Dakota Board of Regents approved offering the new program at Capital City Campus in Pierre during their meeting this past May (2024).
