MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO) — Many rally-goers will be making a pit stop in Mitchell again this year for the city’s rally pre-celebration.

The 2024 Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party will be on main street next to the Corn Palace, taking place on Thursday, August 1st, from 5-10 p.m.

Arron Hieb, Administrative Coordinator of Special Events for the city of Mitchell said that the event has been going on for a while.

“This is the 18th year for the Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party,” said Hieb told KELOLAND News. “This event originated from Brian Klock of Klock Werks. It started at Klock Werks on his property and has now expanded to take up main street.

Klock Werks is a Motorcycle shop located in Mitchell known for making customized motorcycles and all kinds of motorcycle accessories for 27 years.

Hieb said that the event brings in an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 people into the city of Mitchell, from people either on their way out to the rally or whether it being an annual destination for them.

Hieb says with more rally-goers the event is getting bigger.

“Over the years we have continued to work with the partners of this event to make it better every year,” said Hieb ” This is an event that has a lot of moving parts to it from 1st to 7th Avenue on Mitchell’s main street their is something for everyone.”

Hieb said that the event includes food trucks, vendors, stunt shows from the Ives Brothers and a free car and bike show as well as live concerts from Judd Hoos and the Jimmy River Band. They will also have a kid’s zone with bouncy houses, inflatables, and a strider bike track.
