SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It has been another hot day in western South Dakota. Those afternoon temperatures are well above normal, and inching closer to 100°. We have some stronger winds out of the south in south central and southeastern KELOLAND. There are a few clouds forming over the Black Hills that could produce rain or thunderstorms this afternoon.
There is a Heat Advisory in place in central and portions of northeastern KELOLAND though this evening. This is because of the very warm temperatures and higher humidity making it feel even warmer than it actually is.
The rest of the afternoon and evening has a risk of severe weather. This is a level 2 of 5 in yellow. The Sioux City area is in a level 3 of 5 in orange. The main threats today will be large hail and strong winds.
For tonight, we could have some patchy fog in northeastern KELOLAND. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible overnight. The winds will stay mostly light, unless you are under or near a thunderstorm. Low temperatures will drop into the 60s and low 70s.
Tomorrow will be another hot day across KELOLAND. High temperatures will be in the 80s and low 90s. The wind will pick up especially in western South Dakota. We will keep skies partly cloudy with a couple chances for rain and thunderstorms.
Tomorrow afternoon and evening has a risk some of those thunderstorms could become strong to severe. Sioux Falls and south are in a level 3 of 5 risk in orange. Large hail and strong winds will be the main threats with this risk.
Some of those thunderstorms could linger into Thursday morning before clearing out. The wind will stay mostly light. We will have partly to mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will still be on the warm side, with highs in the 80s to mid 90s.
The 7 day forecast keeps temperatures near and above normal. Once we get through Thursday mornings thunderstorm chances we will keep skies mostly quiet. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible on Sunday in northeastern KELOLAND. A few more thunderstorms are possible in western South Dakota to start the week.
