Two of Mississippi’s incumbent congressmen are advancing to the November general election, and two are headed to June 28 runoffs.

Fourth District Republican Rep. Steven Palazzo, who in the past has dominated at the polls, will face challenger Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell in the June 28 runoff, according to incomplete and unofficial results posted Wednesday. Approximately 98% of the district’s precinct tallies were recorded.

Palazzo received 16,107 votes or 31.6% of the vote to Ezell’s 12,809 or 25.1% of the district’s vote.

“It’s an honor to serve south Mississippi, and it’s something I do not take for granted,” Palazzo said in a press statement issued Wednesday morning. “I’m grateful for our supporters and volunteers who worked hard in this election and who will work hard to help us over the next three weeks. We now turn our attention to the run-off, and we will not be out-worked. We will continue talking to voters about what we’ve been able to accomplish and our plans for promoting policies to restore economic growth, secure our borders, and keep Americans safe.”
