SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — An SDSU student is making a name for himself, not in the classroom, but rather on the stage.
“Now John at the bar is a friend of mine he gets my drinks for free,”
Issac McFarland is the piano man.
It’s one of three instruments he plays on stage.
McFarland is only 20 years old, but don’t let his age fool you — he loves the oldies.
“A lot of it has to do with my father, my dad was a big influence on my choice of music, so I have to give him some credit there; he likes all that 80s and 80s rock,” McFarland said.
McFarland, whose stage name is King Izzy, performed recently at the Icon Lounge.
Where he also plays the guitar. McFarland grew up singing songs his entire life and now performs on his own and even writes some of his own music.
“I’ve been performing for a little over a year, about a year and a half it’s been a riot ever since I started,” McFarland said.
He jokes that he likes performing alone because that way he doesn’t have to share any of his money with other band members.
But he also admits, one day he’d like to get a band together.
.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want the end roll to be a star to be famous,” McFarland said.
That would be music to his ears.
“Having a band on stage and selling out a stadium one day potentially, that would be awesome,” McFarland said.
McFarland also plays the saxophone. He attends SDSU where he’s majoring in music entrepreneurship.
