Another seasonable day is behind us in Central Indiana. Briefly into the early evening, the mercury at the Indianapolis International Airport reached 84°. That’s one degree below normal! Not to mention that dew points are a good 8-10° below the levels we’ve been used to over the last few days. It was delightful and that continues Sunday! Enjoy the dominating high pressure that keeps us quiet before we turn more active into next week.

Temperature Forecast Sunday, July 7

Slightly warmer Monday with rain returning late

After Sunday’s comfortable day, the warmest temperatures will be on Monday as high pressure begins to break down before rain arrives. The daytime calls for plenty of sunshine with rising temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90°. Dew points will not be as bad so the bigger heat/humidity threat is minimal.

After the dry daytime, rain chances go up late and continue through Tuesday. A few spots of locally higher precipitation are possible along a cold front. The potential for those with this looks to stay northwest at this time.

Rain chances continue with potential Beryl remnants

The big weather story over the last several days has been Beryl. It weakened significantly after hitting the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. But now that it’s over the warm Gulf of Mexico waters, it’s expected to strengthen and make landfall in Texas around Monday. Hurricane Warnings are in effect for late Sunday and Monday along the coast of Texas.

With that in mind, southwest flow will bring a more moisture-filled atmosphere to Central Indiana. Because of that and upper-level ridging in the southeast, Beryl’s moisture will be allowed to stream into the lower Midwest and Ohio Valley for several days.

Because of this, higher rain chances exist Wednesday into Thursday. Depending on the timing, Beryl’s moisture could dump heavy rain in spots in that timeframe. Since we are still several days away, we’ll monitor any shifts in the forecast. Be prepared for daily rain chances starting Tuesday through much of Thursday. The best chances at this time for heavier rain look to be along and south of I-70 next week.
