SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The JAS Quintet was on Trio Jazz Club’s stage as the new venue in downtown Sioux Falls enjoyed a soft opening Friday; its grand opening is scheduled for Saturday.

“Just to have a music club that’s dedicated to five nights a week, music every night, it’s been a long time since Sioux Falls has had that specifically,” Dan Heier of JAS Quintet said.

Riccardo Tarabelsi and his wife Marybeth own Trio Jazz Club along with R Wine Bar and Maribella Ristorante, which are located alongside the new venue.

“We love the way music makes us feel, and so we just want to create a real, a dedicated intimate music venue where you don’t just hear it, you feel the music,” Tarabelsi said.

Jim Speirs, who plays trumpet and flugelhorn in JAS Quintet, says Trio Jazz Club is not limited to the genre in its name.

“I think this room will welcome anybody that wants to experience intimate, listening-room live music, to feel like they’re part of the music,” Speirs said.

Visitors can’t help but be part of the sounds coming from the stage; it’s not a big room. Heier is an educator and says the new club will serve as a catalyst for developing local young musical talent.

“For them to go and they see and experience musicians live, like I felt like that was the biggest influence on me,” Heier said.

Trio Jazz Club is located across the street from the Washington Pavilion on Main Avenue.

“We think Sioux Falls is ready for this,” Tarabelsi said.

“People are wanting this,” Heier said.

“This is going to change the music scene in Sioux Falls,” Speirs said. “It really will”
