BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help regarding information about a late May hit and run.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, a bicyclist was reportedly struck by a vehicle from behind at around 5:15 p.m. on May 30 in the area of County Road 1100 East, south of State Road 32.

Another bicyclist stopped and aided the person who was hit and reported at the time that a “black motor vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound in the area.”

Investigators with the sheriff’s office said they were not notified of this incident until June 4, since it was originally reported in Hamilton County. The release said that attempts to gather information on the suspect and vehicle “have been exhausted.”

Investigators are asking the public for assistance in trying to locate the suspect and vehicle who hit and seriously injured the bicyclist. The release said after the incident, the bicyclist had serious injuries, including broken bones.

“The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to reach out if they have any knowledge of the event in question,” the release read. “We are specifically looking for any surveillance video in that area on that date, however, any information that can lead to the identification of the suspect and/or vehicle will be helpful.”
