ANDERSON, Ind. — A 17-year-old male is in police custody after his alleged involvement in a shooting that injured another man in Anderson Monday afternoon.

Officers with the Anderson Police Department were dispatched Monday to the 900 block of Walnut Street after receiving reports that a person had been shot in the area. Upon arrival, APD said officers found a 21-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of “non-life-threatening injuries”, according to APD.

APD said preliminary information indicates that the shooting was preceded by a “verbal dispute” that occurred between the suspect and the victim. The 17-year-old was located shortly after officers arrived on the scene and was detained without further incident.

The shooting remains under investigation.
