INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Republican Party has tabbed John Schmitz as its 7th Congressional District nominee.

Per an Indiana GOP Facebook post, Schmitz will now challenge Andre Carson for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in November. Carson has been a U.S. Representative since 2008.

According to previous reporting, Schmitz tried to run for Mayor of Indianapolis in 2019. At the time, Schmitz was working as a masonry contractor.

Per Congress.gov, Indiana’s 7th Congressional District is located exclusively in Marion County and stretches as far north as 86th Street and as far south as Troy Avenue.

The Indiana General Election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5. The deadline to register to vote in this year’s election is Oct. 7.
