INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were injured in a shooting on the near east side of Indianapolis Saturday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of East 10th Street and North Rural Street on a report of two people shot. When police arrived at the scene, they located two female victims with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

IMPD reported that both the victims were transported from the scene to local hospitals. Police believe both individuals are in stable condition.

The individuals that called for help did so from their car, which was located in a gas station parking lot. Police believe the shooting did not take place at the gas station. IMPD indicated that its investigators think the shooting happened somewhere between 10th Street’s intersections with Sherman Drive and Rural Street.

“As the weather gets nicer, more people are going to be out,” IMPD Lieutenant Vincent Stewart said at the scene. “Obviously, we want people to be safe. Be aware of your surroundings. But also at the same time, we continue to talk about conflict resolution. Please, don’t pick up a gun to solve your issues.”

As of this article’s publication, police had not identified any persons of interest during their investigation of the shooting.
