INDIANAPOLIS – Swimmers snapped up four more spots on the U.S. Olympic team during Thursday’s action at the swim trials at Lucas Oil Stadium.

USA Swimming named Carmel’s own Alex Shackell, who qualified in the 200-meter butterfly and 4×200-meter freestyle relay, to the team along with Emma Weyant (400-meter individual medley; Sarasota, Fla./Gator Swim Club); Emma Weber (100-meter breaststroke; Boulder, Colo./University of Virginia); and Katherine Berkoff (100-meter backstroke; Missoula, Mont./NC State) to the team.

Evansville’s Lilly King qualified for an additional event, finishing second in the 200-meter breaststroke. King won the 100-meter breaststroke earlier in the competition. And it wasn’t the only notable accomplishment for King–she also got engaged.

Kate Douglass (200-meter breaststroke; Pelham, N.Y./ New York Athletic Club), Ryan Murphy (200-meter backstroke/ Ponte Vedra Beach, Calif./California Aquatics) and Regan Smith (200-meter butterfly; Lakeville, Minn./Longhorn Aquatics) also qualified for additional events during competition Thursday.

Friday’s events include the men’s 50-meter freestyle final, women’s 200-meter backstroke final, men’s 200-meter individual medley final, men’s 200-meter butterfly semifinal, and women’s 200-meter individual medley semifinal. Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. and finals start at 8 p.m.
