BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Bloomington man has been arrested following a search warrant for a 2021 incident where he reportedly struck a Martinsville woman with his vehicle during a multi-county police pursuit.
According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers arrested 30-year-old O’Shawn McCullough around 9:43 p.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of South Winslow Court, who had a pending warrant for his arrest for the past three years.
Previous reports indicate that McCullough hit a Martinsville woman with his car while evading officers during a pursuit on Aug. 5, 2021, just before 4 p.m. The woman suffered ‘catastrophic injuries’ that included a broken femur, fractured right foot, a sternal fracture, multiple rib fractures and multiple lumbar fractures.
According to BPD, the incident began in Bloomington when officers pulled McCullough over for a reported traffic infraction. He allegedly took off and led police on a pursuit. This continued at speeds over 100 miles per hour as the pursuit spilled into Martinsville, with McCullough attempting to avoid multiple stop sticks.
He finally struck them, hitting and severely injuring the woman. McCullough himself was transported to an area hospital and underwent a medically-induced coma, court documents said.
This coma apparently did not last for very long. According to court documents, McCullough ran out of the hospital the next day and could not be found.
The docs also allege that a gun was recovered from McCullough’s vehicle, as well as $2,300 in cash. In 2015, McCullough reached a plea agreement for cocaine dealing and had a history of resisting arrest, narcotic charges and weapon arrests, according to online court records.
Finally, after three years of searching, McCullough was located in Bloomington, handcuffed and transported to the Monroe County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
- Resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor
- Carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor
- Leaving the scene of an accident, a Class A misdemeanor
- Gun possession by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 felony
- Violating probation
According to online court records, McCullough appeared in Monroe Circuit Court 3 Thursday afternoon for an initial hearing.
