INDIANAPOLIS — A mother has pled guilty in connection to the death of her 8-month-old daughter Amiah Robertson.
According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, Amber Robertson has pled guilty to neglect of a dependent, a level 5 felony. In exchange for pleading guilty to that charge, the state will dismiss the following charges that were initially filed against Robertson:
- Neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 3 felony
- Neglect of a dependent, a level 5 felony
- Neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony
The court accepted the plea deal, which carries a maximum sentencing range of up to six years in prison.
The plea deal also stipulated that Robertson must comply with a no-contact order with ex-boyfriend Robert Lyons, who was also charged in connection to the case. The deal also outlines mandatory requirements that Amber Robertson must remain in the Marion County Jail until her sentencing later this month and undergo mental health evaluations as approved by probation.
Last month, Robert Lyons was sentenced to 16 years, with 10 years executed in the Indiana Department of Correction and 6 years suspended after accepting a plea deal in the case.
According to previous reports, an investigation was launched in March 2019 following the disappearance of 8-month-old Amiah Robertson.
According to previous reports, 8-month-old Amiah Robertson disappeared five years ago on March 9, 2019. Her mother, Amber Robertson, reportedly delayed contacting the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to report her disappearance until March 16.
Amber had previously indicated to investigators that she had left Amiah with Lyons so that he could drop her off with a babysitter in the 200 block of South Holmes Avenue.
Amiah was never seen again after that, with one witness claiming they reportedly observed Amiah on March 8 or March 9 sporting bruises on the side of her face. Although some of the child’s belongings and evidence related to the girl were located on Eagle Creek near McCarty Street, no remains have ever been found.
According to online court records, Amber is due to appear in a jury trial on June 24 at 9 a.m. in Marion Superior Court 28.
