INDIANAPOLIS — A 19-year-old Indianapolis man has been arrested after he was linked to a shooting and carjacking that occurred on Wednesday on the east side of Indianapolis, as well as a separate carjacking that occurred in the area earlier this month.

According to a post on the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s social media page, 19-year-old Bryant Hoskins was arrested for the following preliminary charges:

  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • Armed Robbery
  • Possession of a machine gun
  • Theft of a firearm

Officers with the department’s east district responded to the 8100 block of E. 36th Street just after midnight on Wednesday for a reported shooting. During their preliminary investigation, officers learned that a woman was reportedly shot during a robbery.

The woman told police on the scene that her vehicle, as well as a firearm, had been stolen and the suspect, later identified as Hoskins, had shot her when she tried to defend herself. The post said that the carjacked vehicle was located shortly after the incident occurred.

During the investigation, detectives said there were similarities between this carjacking and a previous one that occurred on May 24 in the 7900 block of E. 38th St. Detectives were then able to locate Hoskins at an apartment, who was then taken into custody without incident.

IMPD detectives then conducted a search of Hoskins’ home and the woman’s vehicle, the post read that the woman’s firearm was located as well as property linked to the reported carjacking on May 24. A second firearm, equipped with a machine gun conversion device, was also reportedly located.
