A 19-year-old man is accused of a shooting that wounded an officer on the U.S. Marshals Service task force as well as a police dog Thursday on the Northwest Side, officials said.
Tarrion Johnson was charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted armed robbery and aggravated cruelty to animals, Chicago police said.
Johnson, of the 4200 block of West Cullerton Avenue, was expected to appear for a bond hearing later Saturday.
The shooting occurred at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday in the 5200 block of West Belmont Avenue, where Chicago police and members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force were attempting to arrest a wanted person, according to an earlier police statement.
During the course of the arrest, an assailant fired shots, striking a deputy U.S. marshal, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. A U.S. Marshals Service K-9 dog was shot.
A Chicago police officer returned fire but did not strike anyone, the statement said.
At least one other person had been arrested, police said at the time.
