An animal trainer who gained fame in the Netflix docuseries “Tiger King” has been arrested in South Carolina.Mahamayavi Antle, 62, or “Doc” Antle, as he became known, was arrested Friday and is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, in Horry County, according to the detention center website.No specific charges were immediately released.Antle, the owner of the Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina, is one of the characters in “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” a 2020 Netflix documentary miniseries that focused on tiger breeders in Florida and Oklahoma.Located on 50 acres in South Myrtle Beach, Antle’s safari park offers day “safaris” and gives customers a chance to “meet the World’s Largest big cat,” see a 9,000 lb. African elephant and interact with baby tiger cubs, according to its website.The website says the park first opened in 1983. Antle was indicted on animal cruelty and wildlife trafficking charges in Virginia in October 2020.He is scheduled to go on trial in July on those charges.
