MADISON COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police arrested three people for operating while intoxicated during a saturation patrol in Madison County Friday night.
According to a press release, a total of 64 traffic stops were conducted during the patrol, which lasted from 9 p.m. Friday night to 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
The patrol yielded three OWI arrests. Three other people were arrested for operating while never receiving a license, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
ISP’s press release indicates that saturation patrols are designed to help troopers “locate and apprehend impaired drivers.” State police also encourage Hoosiers to plan ahead when they intend to drink alcohol by designating a sober driver or utilizing ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft.
ISP urges those who suspect they have located an impaired driver to call 911. Police have indicated that callers must be prepared to describe vehicles, locations and directions of travel when reporting impaired drivers.
