For the week ending Sunday (May 29, 2022) there were 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork in South Dakota, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 9% very short, 21% short, 56% adequate and 14% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 11% very short, 26% short, 58% adequate and 5% surplus.

 

Field Crops Report:

Corn planted was 86%, behind 97% last year, but near the 82% five year average. Emerged was 44%, behind 78% last year and behind the 57% average.

Soybeans planted was 61%, behind 91% last year, but near the 64% average. Emerged was 16%, behind 60% last year and behind 32% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 4% very poor, 22% poor, 41% fair, 31% good and 2% excellent. Winter wheat headed was 12%, behind 30% last year and the 21% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 17% poor, 29% fair, 50% good and 3% excellent. Spring wheat planted was 97%, near 100% last year and near the 95% average. Emerged was 85%, behind 92% last year, but equal to average.

Oats condition rated 2% very poor, 13% poor, 48% fair, 35% good and 2% excellent. Oats planted was 93%, behind 99% last year and near the 94% average. Emerged was 78%, behind 93% last year and behind the 85% average.

Sorghum planted was 36%, well behind 61% last year and near the 38% average.

Sunflowers planted was 23%, behind 33% last year and equal to average.

 

Pasture and Range Report:

Pasture and range conditions rated 18% very poor, 29% poor, 35% fair, 16% good and 2% excellent.
