Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was booked into a Bay Area jail over the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Napa County booking records show Paul Pelosi, 82, was apprehended by police at 11:44 p.m. on Saturday and charged with two misdemeanors related to operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The news was first reported by TMZ.

Bail was set at $5,000 and appears to have been posted, because in-custody records no longer list Pelosi.

Paul Pelosi was born in San Francisco and married Nancy in 1963. He is the founder of Financial Leasing Services, an investment firm based in the city. Throughout his decades-long marriage to the prominent California politician, he’s remained a fairly low profile.

“I’ve made a conscious effort to not be involved or give the appearance of being involved in her political career,” he once told the San Francisco Chronicle in 2004. “People should realize that she’s the one.”

Nancy Pelosi was in Rhode Island on Sunday to deliver a commencement speech at Brown University.

The Hill reached Pelosi’s spokesperson, Drew Hammill, who told the outlet that “she was not with her husband at the time and would not be commenting on the matter.”

A request for comment from the Napa Police Department was not immediately returned.
