DANR Announces More Than $1.1 Billion for South Dakota Environmental Projects

PIERRE, S.D. – Today, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) announced the Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved $1,102,749,980 in grants and loans for drinking water and wastewater projects in South Dakota.

The $1,102,749,980 total includes $415,243,398 in grants and $687,506,582 in low-interest loans with $642,520 in principal forgiveness. The American Rescue Plan Act accounts for $406,364,807 of the grant dollars. More than 90 organizations received funding.

“These projects will serve our grandchildren and their grandchildren,” said Governor Kristi Noem. “I am proud to support these community investments to ensure the people of South Dakota continue to have clean drinking water and safe disposal systems to serve their needs for decades to come.”

The grants and loans were awarded from DANR’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program, Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program, Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Program, and American Rescue Plan Act. The state of South Dakota is making a historic investment in infrastructure by dedicating $600 million of American Rescue Plan Act funding for local water and wastewater infrastructure grants.

The board approved the funding at today’s meeting in Pierre.
