Chicago police on Thursday released a person being questioned in connection with a Lincoln Square traffic accident that left a bicyclist dead earlier this week.

While no charges were filed, a police spokesperson Thursday evening said the department was continuing its investigation.

Authorities still haven’t publicly released the identity of 59-year-old man from Edgewater who died. He was struck by a car around 8 p.m. Monday in the 5100 block of North Damen Avenue while traveling in the bike lane.

According to the crash report, the driver of the vehicle who struck the cyclist had a blood alcohol concentration more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. Police detained the driver, who had left the scene.

In a statement released Tuesday, Ald. Andre Vasquez, 40th, called the accident “a devastating loss” and said his office was communicating with the Chicago Department of Transportation about improving bike and pedestrian safety in the area.
