MANILA, Philippines — After winning her first Most Valuable Player crown, Ces Molina vows to keep her feet on the ground and stay consistent for the Cignal HD Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

The 28-year-old spiker shed tears of joy after being crowned as the 2023 Invitational Conference MVP as she couldn’t imagine winning a top individual honor and only expecting to receive their bronze medal and an outside hitter plum.

After 13 years, the hard work and consistency of Molina was finally recognized with her first-ever MVP trophy.

“This is my first MVP talaga kaya naiyak talaga ako sa speech ko kasi talagang sobrang surreal talaga yung achievement na ‘to para sa akin,” an emotional Molina told reporters.

(This is my first MVP that’s why I cried during my speech. Getting this achievement is really surreal for me.)

But her maiden MVP crown will serve as an inspiration to stay humble and keep on working hard.

“Siyempre malaking inspiration and siyempre pressure din po ito siyempre lahat ng tao mag-e-expect na ‘to and siyempre hahanapan ka na lagi ng results. Kailangan lang po talaga na unang una, hindi lumaki yung ulo ko dahil dito sa award na ‘to,” Molina said. “And for 13 years na naglalaro ako it’s my first MVP dito sa mga major league na nilaruan ko. Tuloy tuloy lang yung trabaho hanggang sa next conference.”

(This gives me a big inspiration and pressure as well because everyone will have big expectations from me to deliver good results. I just need to keep my feet on the ground. I’ve been playing for 13 years and this is my first MVP in any major league that I played in. I will keep working hard up to the next conference.)

Molina, who emerged as the highest-scoring local in the semifinals phase with 87 points and the third-highest spiker efficiency in the phase with a 33.65-percent success rate, vowed that nothing will change as she will keep on grinding to deliver for Cignal and keep her scoring consistency.

“I do not promise anything talaga pero yung hard work ko na binibigay lagi sa game and makatulong sa team, makacontribute especially sa points dahil wing spiker ako. Consistency siyempre and magiging mas healthy pa para mas makatulong sa team,” said the former Philippine women’s volleyball team member.

(I do not promise anything except for the hard work that I put in every game to help the team and contribute especially in scoring as a wing spiker. Of course, I also need consistency and good health to help the team more.)

Cignal returned to the podium with a bronze medal after missing the semifinal of the All-Filipino Conference. Molina was pleased with the result of their midseason campaign, where they faced eventual champion Kurashiki Ablaze of Japan and Vietnam’s Kinh Bac-Bac Ninh.

“Talagang hindi naging madali sa amin itong conference na ito kasi unang una sa lahat may foreign team and talagang binigay namin yung best namin para sa conference na ito,” she said. “We fell short pero pasok pa rin kami sa podium sobrang happy ng team namin and i-enjoy lang namin yung panalo na to and babalik ulit kami sa trabaho iba nanaman yung focus next conference.”

(This conference was not easy for us because there were foreign teams and we just tried to give our best. We fell short but we’re still happy because we made it to the podium and we were able to enjoy this win. We’re going to get back to work and focus on the next conference.)
