A woman found dead Monday night in Logan Square was identified by loved ones as 33-year-old Brittany Battaglia, who was described as a “great person” by her brother on Tuesday.
“She was a great person. She was happy and she would help anyone,” her brother AJ Battaglia told the Tribune.
Battaglia was reported missing after she was last seen June 2 and police issued a missing report for her Monday morning.
On Monday night, an unidentified woman was found unresponsive in a building in the 2000 block of North Kimball Avenue, about a block away from where Battaglia lived. The woman was found shortly after 8:30 p.m., Chicago police said.
“My parents are on their way to the medical examiner’s office now to identify my sister,” AJ Battaglia said in a phone interview. “I am on my way to be interviewed by the state’s attorney.”
A friend of the missing woman, Jennifer Hall, said she was with Battaglia’s roommate when she received a call Monday from detectives saying they discovered her body. Battaglia’s younger brother also said detectives called him Monday night inquiring about his sister’s tattoos.
Hall, who had known Battaglia about 12 years, has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds to help cover funeral expenses.
“My heart goes out to the family,” Hall wrote. “She was my friend and I can’t believe what has happened.”
Detectives are investigating and were questioning a person of interest, family said.
