For decades, resort properties and luxury developments have spelled doom for natural habitats. Huge hotels and human nonsense have appeared all over the world’s beaches and other beautiful places, driving out natural wildlife and harming natural wonders. That’s not the case with Mayakoba. This 600-acre luxury development is designed with the intention to preserve, protect and even enhance the natural world all around it.

Their goal was to achieve harmony between people and nature. Since the development was first created, that goal has been a primary focus…and it definitely seems to be working.

Hatching protection areas for sea turtles and new coral colonies will help to restore the reef. Since the property opened, hundreds of new wildlife species have started to live on the property and 35% of the total area has been designated for conservation and protection.

The golf course was designed with an irrigation system and the golf carts have solar panels on the to soak up all that clean, renewable energy. Through the Environment Resource Management System, there is a strong focus on wildlife management, environmental training and awareness of the natural world. Several different programs are in place that are designed to conserve and improve the natural world. More than 10 full-time staff members are at work on these programs.
This gorgeous development shows the world that it is possible for people and nature to live together in a harmonious loop where both can thrive. Habitats don’t have to be destroyed and animals and people can live together. Mayakoba is definite proof of that. It’s a concept that humans are beginning to re-learn. And thanks to properties like this, other developers and designers have a blueprint to follow and a bar to meet when it comes to eco-friendly properties.
