The Atlanta Opera’s Tomer Zvulun took to the stage Saturday night just before the curtain rose for Wagner’s epic Das Rheingold. He scanned the packed house at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, then quipped, “I’d like to thank all of you for choosing Wagner over Taylor Swift.”
Swift and her legion of “Swifties” took over downtown Atlanta for her record-setting three-night run at Mercedes-Benz Stadium that attracted a total of 210,000 fans with more than $33 million in ticket sales (not to mention all the merch stands in and around the stadium). She performed 44 songs for each epic three-hour plus concert.
ArtsATL photographer Perry Julien was in the house Friday night and shares his photos from a show he calls “one of the most overwhelming live music experiences” he’s had in his nearly five decades shooting concerts.
