A 54-year-old San Francisco mother who died in a wrong-way collision in Woodside on Saturday was identified as Eden Palmer, the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office said.
Palmer was pronounced dead at the scene after Constellatia Martin, 24, allegedly drove the opposite way of traffic on Interstate 280’s southbound lanes and collided head-on with Palmer’s vehicle at about 2:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol said.
Palmer, who was the driver of her vehicle, had her 14-year-old son in the passenger seat, CHP said. Officials said Martin and the 14-year-old had major injuries and were taken to the Stanford Medical Hospital.
After the collision, witnesses reported that Martin pulled off her clothes and tried getting into other vehicles, Arturo Montiel, a CHP spokesperson, told SFGATE. She was arrested Saturday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, CHP said.
Martin worked as a teacher at the Girls’ Middle School in Palo Alto, a spokesperson for the school told SFGATE in a statement. Martin was no longer employed or affiliated with the school at the time of the crash, the statement read.
CHP said it is not known at this time whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
