Google users around the world on Saturday were experiencing outages and glitches on both the desktop and app versions of the platform.
Thousands of people, most of them in India and the U.K., said the issues were mostly affecting Gmail, which has more than 1.5 billion users worldwide, according to downdetector.com. The app, one of the most downloaded in 2022, was also somewhat unresponsive.
An influx of complaints started around 8 a.m. and continued to spike well into Saturday morning.
Google acknowledged the outages on its Google Workspace Dashboard and promised to provide an update by Saturday evening.
“We are experiencing an issue with Gmail,” the note said. “Our engineering team continues to investigate the issue.”
Users dogged with undelivered emails and slow-moving services in the meantime took to Twitter and other social media platforms to voice their frustrations.
“Gmail is down, you’re not going mad,” one person wrote.
Another tweeted: “#gmail is down for many, a worldwide outage! Calm down!! We will get through this!! If you can’t receive emails you’re in good company with your gmail outage family we will survive!! @gmail.”
