Kate Middleton wore rented green gown, Princess Diana’s jewels to awards ceremony

Kate Middleton, the princess of Wales, joined her husband Prince William on what was a green carpet Friday night, capping a three-day visit to Boston with a glitzy, glamorous awards show dubbed by some as the “Oscars for climate change.”Prince William and Princess Kate arrived outside Boston’s MGM Music Hall to a roaring crowd. In keeping with the sustainable theme of the event, the princess wore a lime green Solace London dress with her hair styled down. Kate rented the dress from HURR, a U.K. rental platform, according to People. She accessorized with a diamond and emerald choker that the late Princess Diana often wore to events. Royal watchers say Princess Kate’s outfit was reminiscent of a bright green gown Diana wore along with the sparkling choker to a banquet in November 1993.The necklace has a long royal history, according to The Court Jeweller, a daily blog devoted to royal jewelry. The emerald choker necklace, which features a distinctive art deco design, dates to the early years of the reign of King George V. The Jeweller says the necklace was made by redesigning an emerald and diamond necklace that was presented to Queen Mary during the Delhi Durbar in 1911.Friday night’s event marked the end of Kate and Willliam’s three-day trip in Boston. William and his wife, Kate, earlier attended a welcome Wednesday at City Hall and then a Boston Celtics game before the royal couple spent much of Thursday hearing about the threats of climate change and solutions in the works.William became heir apparent less than three months ago with the death of his grandmother, the queen, but he already has been crowned Britain’s chief environmentalist. That was apparent during the Boston visit, which earned praise for drawing attention to pollution and climate change and the need to scale up solutions.
