The owner of a Seattle-Tacoma-area barbershop was fatally shot Wednesday while cutting an 8-year-old’s hair, police said.
The gunman remains at large after entering the JQ Barber store in Puyallup, Wash., and shooting the victim multiple times, a witness told the Puyallup Police Department.
“The suspect then fled the area on foot,” police said. “The child was not harmed.”
Authorities didn’t name the victim but say he was 43 years old and lived in Tacoma.
The suspect is believed to be a 5-foot-8 male and was wearing all-black clothing at the time of the shooting, police said. His race is unknown.
“The business was occupied at the time of the incident by several individuals who are cooperating with the investigation,” police said. “These individuals informed responding officers that the suspect entered the business and went directly to the booth.”
A “comprehensive search” involving a canine didn’t lead police to the suspect, according to cops, who asked local residents and business owners to review surveillance footage near the crime scene.
In an update Wednesday night, police said the crime scene remained active and urged people to stay away from the area.
Puyallup is home to the Washington State Fair and is located about 10 miles south of Tacoma and 35 miles south of Seattle.
