Clifton restaurant hands out free Thanksgiving meals

WELL, A LOCAL RESTAURANT IS REALLY GETTING INTO THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT THIS YEAR BY MAKING SURE EVERYONE HAS A MEAL FOR THANKSGIVING. HOW GREAT IS THIS? GOOD PLACE EATERY IS KICKING OFF ITS ANNUAL HOLIDAY FOOD DISTRIBUTION. IT’S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT WEEK. THE MEALS ARE FREE, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. LAST YEAR, THE OWNERS GAVE OUT MORE THAN 200 MEALS FOR THANKSGIVING, 600 FOR CHRISTMAS. THIS YEAR. THEIR GOAL IS TO HAND OUT 1000 MEALS FOR EACH HOLIDAY. SUCH A GENEROUS, GENEROUS DONATION. AND TODAY, WE’RE JOINED BY ONE OF THE RESTAURANT’S OWNERS, ANDREW LANCER. AND ANDREW, THANKS SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE WITH US. AND I IMAGINE THIS IS A BUSY TIME FOR YOU, SO WE WANT YOU TO HAVE AMAZING HOW MANY MEALS YOU GUYS HAVE GIVEN OUT. TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU GOT STARTED DOING THESE FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS. SO IT WAS JUST SOMETHING THAT WE WERE HITTING THE RESTAURANT GOING EVEN PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC STUFF. IT WAS SOMETHING WE KNEW WE WANTED TO DO IN SOME FASHION. WOULD WE DIDN’T REALLY HAVE IT QUITE FIGURED OUT AND IT KIND OF GREW FROM 2020 DOING IT FOR STUDENTS THAT JUST COULDN’T GO HOME. PEOPLE AT DIDN’T HAVE MEALS OR HOWEVER. AND THEN THANKSGIVING LAST YEAR AND COMING TO A NEW STATION PICKED IT UP AND PROBABLY CHANNEL FIVE I THINK IS FROM A POST THAT HAD GONE VIRAL ONLINE AND KIND OF RAMPED IT UP FOR THANKSGIVING WHERE WE DID ABOUT 250. AND THEN I WAS LIKE, OH, I SHOULD PROBABLY REACH OUT TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT WE’RE DOING. YEAH, WHAT WE’RE DOING. SO THEN OVER CHRISTMAS, WE GOT IT UP AND DID ABOUT 600. SO WE STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO KIND OF PUSHING IT AND LETTING PEOPLE KNOW WE’RE GOING TO BE DOING IT AGAIN. YEAH, THAT’S AMAZING. AND WE JUST CONFIRMED IT WAS OUR OUR NEWS STATION. IT BUT YOU GUYS STARTED YOUR RESTAURANT DURING THE PANDEMIC AND THERE YOU WERE FEEDING PEOPLE FOR FREE. YEAH, IT WAS JUST SOMETHING WE WEREN’T ABLE TO DO IT. IT WAS KIND OF LIKE, WHAT ARE WE DOING? WE HAVE THE MEANS AND THE ABILITY TO SO WE DO IT. YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS AND YOU MENTIONED THE STUDENTS UP THERE, OF COURSE, AND YOU TALKED ABOUT THERE WILL BE NO QUESTIONS ASKED FOR THE PEOPLE WHO COME IN, BECAUSE I THINK A LOT OF ORGANIZATIONS HAVE HAD TO SAY, OKAY, YOU HAVE TO, YOU KNOW, SHOW VERIFICATION AND THAT SORT OF THING. YEAH, WHY DO YOU HAVE THIS? WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOU GUYS TO HAND OUT THESE MEALS WITHOUT ASKING ANY SORT OF EXPLANATION? BECAUSE IT DOESN’T MATTER. LIKE, I MEAN, IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU JUST YOU HAVE FOUR KIDS AND YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE COOKING THAT NIGHT. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU JUST NEED A MEAL AND LIKE NEED A WARM PLACE TO SIT. WE’LL HAVE COFFEE AND COOKIES. HOT CHOCOLATE IF YOU WANT TO EAT YOUR MEAL THERE, THEN WE SERVE WARM IN MICROWAVABLE MICROWAVABLE CONTAINERS SO YOU CAN TAKE THEM HOME. SO IT IS WEDNESDAY AND THEN YOU CAN TAKE IT HOME TO WARM IT UP FOR THANKSGIVING. I MEAN, GET AN EXTRA MEAL FOR THAT NIGHT AND FOR THANKSGIVING. YEAH, IT DOESN’T MATTER. THAT IS JUST SUCH A HEART OF GIVING. I REALLY LOVE THAT. HOW CAN PEOPLE GET INVOLVED IF THEY WANT TO GET IN ON THE GIVING AS WELL? SO WE DO HAVE WE ARE PRETTY WELL STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS FOR THANKSGIVING, MAYBE LOOKING FOR ONE OR TWO MORE FOR CHRISTMAS. I MEAN, IF PEOPLE DO WANT TO DONATE, IT’S BY NO MEANS A REQUIREMENT FOR GETTING MEALS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. BUT WE DO HAVE A VENMO GOOD PLATES EATERY WHERE FEEL FREE TO STOP DOWN IN THE RESTAURANT. WOW, WHAT A WONDERFUL THING THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING. AND FOR YOU TO BE SUCH A NEW BUSINESS OWNER AND WANTING TO GIVE BACK IN THIS WAY, I THINK IT SPEAKS VOLUMES FOR WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING AND AND YOUR TEAM OVER THERE. SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU STOPPING BY AND HAVING ME GOOD PLATES EATERY. IF YOU MAYBE WANT TO STOP IN WE LOVE SUPPORTING BUSINESSES HERE LOCALLY WHO ARE DOING GOOD THINGS SO IT’S LOCATED RIGHT THERE AT 235 WEST MCMILLAN STREET IN CLIFTON. AGAIN, YOU CAN PICK UP YOUR THANKSGIVING MEAL THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING. SO WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD, THIS COMING WEDNESDAY, POP INTO THE RESTAURANT. TELL THEM HOW MANY MEALS YOU NEED AND THEN YOU’LL BE ON YOUR WAY AGAIN. THEY’RE PREPARING A THOUSAND MEALS TO HAND OUT. DOORS ARE GOING TO BE OPEN AT NOON. THE MEALS WILL BE HANDED OUT UNTIL WELL, THEY’RE ALL GONE. AND REMEMBER, THEY DO THIS FOR CHRISTMAS AGAIN, TOO. SO AS SOON AS THEY HAVE THOSE DETAILS, OF COURSE, WE’LL BE PASSING THEM ALONG TO YOU AS WELL. AND ALSO, BY THE WAY, IF YOU MAYBE NEED HELP STAYING WARM, YOU CAN ALSO PICK UP A FREE COAT FROM RACKS RIGHT OUTSIDE THE RESTAURANTS THAT IT RACKS. RIGHT. OKAY. AND AGAIN, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY JUST THERE AND KIND OF THAT WAS THAT WAS ALL MY WIFE AND PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AND WE’VE DONE TWO TWO ROUNDS OF IT AND WE HAVE ANOTHER OUR LAST ROUND OF IT OUT DURING THAT WEDNESDAY TO GREAT GREAT STUFF THERE.
