A 71-year-old man was found dead on the street Wednesday morning, apparently struck by an unknown driver, police said.

The fatal Brighton Park crash at 4600 S. California Ave. is the second deadly hit-and-run this week. On Monday, 42-year-old Monica Eason died after being struck by a car in a West Garfield Park crosswalk on the 900 block of South Pulaski Road, authorities said.

Paramedics transported Eason to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead after the 8:33 p.m. crash, police said. Authorities described the car that hit her as a tan SUV and said the car continued southbound. The drivers in both fatal hit-and-runs are not in police custody, police said.

Another violent hit-and-run left a 38-year-old woman with “incapacitating injuries” after she was struck by an also unidentified vehicle while using a crosswalk at the 600 block of Rush Street in Streeterville at 7:50 p.m. Friday, according to police. The woman was transported to Northwestern Hospital and listed in fair condition, police said.

On Wednesday evening the Cook County medical examiner had not yet identified the 71-year-old man who died in the Brighton Park crash. The man was found at 6:41 a.m., police said.
