On October 31, 2022, Sidney Garrand was arrested and booked into Maricopa County Jail on multiple charges to include 1st Degree Murder for the death of an 8-year-old girl.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at about 11:00 a.m. officers responded to a shooting in the area of 1600 East Greenway Parkway. As officers got there, they found the child suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical care was provided to the victim, and she was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Garrand and the girl’s father were taken to local hospitals.
Officers learned that a road rage incident between two vehicles occurred in the area of 16th Street and Grovers Avenue. The driver of one vehicle, identified as the 48-year-old Garrand, followed the other vehicle occupied with three people to the area of 16th Street and Greenway Parkway. Garrand got out of his car and began to fight in the roadway with the driver of the second vehicle, the girl’s 28-year-old father, who also got out of his car.
During the fight, the father of the girl, fearing for his life and that of his family, stabbed Garrand then began to drive away from the area. Garrand then pulled out a handgun and began to shoot at the vehicle driving away with three occupants inside. The 8-year-old child was sitting in the back of the car and was struck by a bullet that left her in critical condition.
