GREENFIELD, Ind. — Starting in early November, 50 people are expected to be laid off from the Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, according to a recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification submitted to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

According to the WARN notice, Hancock Regional Hospital will lay off 50 workers on Nov. 3. Officials with Hancock Health said that a number of workers’ titles will be impacted, including:

  • Billing Supervisor
  • Cashier
  • Claims Analyst
  • Claims Analyst Team Lead
  • Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist
  • Clinical Documentation Specialist
  • Clinical Reimbursement Coordinator
  • Coding Specialist
  • Coding Specialist II
  • Collection Clerk
  • Credentialing Specialist
  • Director
  • Home Coder/Abstractor II
  • Home Coder/Abstractor III
  • Information Processing Supervisor
  • Inpatient Coder/Abstractor
  • Insurance Clerk I
  • Insurance Clerk II
  • Medical Staff Services Credentialing Specialist
  • Patient Access Representative
  • Patient Accounts Representative
  • PFS Department Lead
  • Poster
  • Reimbursement Application Analyst
  • Revenue Integrity Medical Coding Specialist
  • Revenue Data Analyst

In a statement from Steve Long, the chief executive officer of Hancock Health, he said about a year ago, the system engaged with a company called Revology to provide leadership to the hospital’s revenue cycle team. According to its website, Revology is a tech-enabled revenue cycle management firm.

During the past year, Long said that a purely local approach would not be enough to meet future patient volumes and a “full range of experts” is needed for the Hancock Health revenue cycle group. This caused the hospital to transition the entire department to Revology on Nov. 4.

“Please know this decision was not made lightly and is not an effort reduce FTEs or to save money,” Long said in the statement. “This is a strategic decision designed to help with the tremendous growth we are experiencing, and to be ready for even greater growth in the future.  The ultimate goal is to create a more customer focused billing process that exceeds the expectations of our patients in a way that also allows our revenue cycle associates to be fulfilled in their work environment.

“We are grateful to each member of the revenue cycle team who makes the decision to transition to Revology and ultimately remain working with and on Hancock Health business,” the statement concluded. “Please join me in thanking them for their willingness to create an even better approach to revenue cycle for our patients and make Health Possible for all the residents of east central Indiana!”
