INDIANAPOLIS — Four citizens and one firefighter were hospitalized after an apartment fire in Connersville.

According to a Facebook post from the Connersville Fire Department, crews were dispatched to Town Terrace Apartments — which are located at 3507 N. Grand Ave. — around 5:17 a.m. because a building alarm had gone off. When firefighters made it to the scene, they found flames that were spreading from a first-story apartment to a second-story apartment.

Initial reports CFD received indicated several individuals were trapped in second-story apartments.

Soon after they made it to the scene, crews began search and fire suppression efforts. CFD ultimately cleared the building and ensured no tenants remained trapped in the complex.

CFD confirmed one person was flown from the scene to Eskenazi Burn Center after the fire. Two others were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries because they jumped from second-story balconies before CFD arrived at the scene.

A fourth individual was transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation. One firefighter was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

CFD is still investigating the cause of the fire. As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the blaze had been made available.
