Center City: Stylish wood-fired pizza place Mulherin’s Pizzeria has closed after less than a year in business, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. There was a legal dispute going on behind the scenes, according to the Inquirer, including demands of payment that totaled $1.7 million from six of the building’s contractors, plus additional claims against the restaurant’s owner Method Co. by the building owner. 1175 Ludlow Street
Old City: Philly pizza shop and sports bar Big Ass Slices — where an employee died after an altercation with a man during a shift last May — appears to have permanently shut down this month. A Reddit commenter posted a photo of a stop-work order from the Department of Revenue taped to the restaurant’s front door. The local news account @oldcilly published a post on Instagram publicizing the closure along with a quote from the owner saying that they had decided to sell the restaurant “for a handful of reasons.” 224 Market Street
University City: Stephen Starr’s longstanding restaurant Pod, known for its spage-age-y, color-changing pod seating and a sushi conveyor belt, closed down on Saturday, February 22. Pod was Starr’s third Philly restaurant, and it closed just shy of its 25th anniversary. 3636 Sansom Street
