NEW CASTLE, Ind. — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating three “large” explosions that were heard in New Castle Wednesday night.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence located on South Clearview Drive in New Castle after receiving reports from the Henry County Dispatch that at least three explosions had been heard and felt in the area. The sheriff’s office did not confirm the exact time the deputies began investigating the explosions.

Henry County Sheriff John Sproles said the county dispatch received more than 50 calls from around the county after the explosions went off. The sheriff said some callers even reported that the blasts almost “knocked them down” while inside their homes, which are located nearly a mile away.

While an investigation into the explosions remains active, HCSO said preliminary information indicates the blasts were likely caused by “small legal fireworks,” after encountering five males at the residence upon arrival.

No injuries or signs of damage were reported after deputies searched the residence, according to HCSO.
