TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — Three people were injured in a pair of motorcycle crashes in Tippecanoe County on Sunday.
Per the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the first of the two crashes happened in the 9700 block of Tyler Road — which is located near Battle Ground, Indiana — around 10:38 a.m. Deputies that responded to the scene found a motorcycle that had run off the roadway and a female driver who had suffered serious injuries.
TCSO crash reconstructionists determined the driver of the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve while travelling southbound on Tyler Road. The motorcyclist then ran off the right side of the roadway into a nearby field.
The sheriff’s office reported that the motorcyclist was transported from the scene to IU Health Arnett Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was then transferred to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis due to the nature of her injuries.
The second motorcycle crash deputies responded to happened in the 4700 block of Dayton Road around 7:26 p.m. At that scene, deputies found a motorcycle that had run off the roadway and struck a guardrail.
TCSO’s crash reconstruction team determined the motorcycle — which was equipped with a sidecar attachment — drifted while its driver was trying to travel south on Dayton Road. When the motorcycle drifted, a male driver and a female passenger were ejected from it.
Both of the motorcycle’s occupants were transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital. The female passenger was subsequently transferred to IU Methodist Hospital because her injuries were considered life-threatening.
TCSO investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the second crash. The sheriff’s office reported that all three of the individuals who were injured in Sunday’s crashes were not wearing helmets.
Both Tyler and Dayton Roads were closed for approximately two hours while officials and investigators cleaned up the two crashes.
As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the crashes had been made available.
