SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Sioux Falls police are still searching for answers to a series of unsolved crimes that happened in 2024.
“A lot of the time when we’re looking at specific things, it takes time and we can’t really disclose why or what exactly we’re looking for,” Sam Clemens with the Sioux Falls Police Department said.
There have been 16 homicides in Sioux Falls in 2024. Some remain unsolved.
Police are still looking for a person of interest when it comes to a shooting that happened the day after Christmas. They’re also searching for the person who shot a trailer home 16 times, killing a 27-year-old woman inside in September.
Other high profile crimes that remain unsolved include an October car versus building crash involving a stolen SUV and an apartment building. Two people were injured, including a 3-year-old boy who was pinned against the wall. Police are still looking for the driver
“We had witnesses that saw several people leave that SUV. We know that it would had been stolen before that accident. Outside of that, we’re still looking. We’ve got a few, I’ll say, possible suspects in mind,” Clemens said.
The investigation also continues into a newborn baby found at a recycling center in August.
“The main thing is trying to identify, you know, who the baby belonged to. And we haven’t been able to do that at this point,” Clemens said.
While some of these investigations are still underway, the Sioux Falls Police Department has been able to solve a number of cases in Sioux Falls this year.
“There’s probably way more crime that gets solved than people ever hear about because most of those aren’t the big huge crimes. Certainly, those gain a lot of attention,” Clemens said. “If it takes time with the investigation before we’re able to make an arrest, that also gets attention.”
If you have any information on any of the unsolved crimes, you are encouraged to contact Sioux Falls police or Crime Stoppers.
