An investigation is ongoing after two women were injured in a shooting in the Gold Coast overnight, the Chicago Police Department said.

Officers on foot patrol in the area of the 100 block of West Division Street heard gunshots around 3:15 a.m. and found a 29-year-old woman with a graze wound to the left side of the head and a 26-year-old woman with two gunshot wounds to the left leg and buttocks, police said. Both women were transported to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.

A person was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, and a weapon was recovered, police said.

As of June 30, one of the victims was employed as a special education teacher at Daniel C. Beard Elementary School on the Northwest Side, according to Chicago Public Schools records.

“Our thoughts are with the victims of this senseless violence,” CPS said in a statement, adding that the district is in contact with police and will ensure its crisis team supports the victim and school community.

There were no updates on the investigation shortly after noon Saturday.
