Rescue crews pulled two teenage girls out of the Great Miami River after they were swept away.According to Hamilton police, the teenagers were swimming in the river when they got caught in the current shortly before 7:30 p.m. Officers found them near the Black Street Bridge.Police were told the two teenagers frequent the river and were just north of the dam, walking out in the center of the river where the current became stronger and swept the two girls across the dam and down the river.Officers were able to get both teenagers out safely without calling in any water rescue teams. No one was injured.”A few times a year we do run into situations where the undercurrent in the river is greater than what people expect or think-especially after it might rain. Further up north it seems calm then all of a sudden the river rises and then there’s a dangerous situation,” said Lt. Don Taylor.Taylor also emphasized because the summer heat is on the way, they do not encourage anyone to wade or swim in the river because of the unpredictable undercurrents, but rather a pool or the splash pads.
