MUNCIE, Ind. — Four people were arrested after a shootout at a Muncie party over the weekend.

According to multiple probable cause affidavits, 18-year-old Landen Ty Pointer, 22-year-old Trevon Tyrell Embry, 20-year-old Brooklyn Nicole Swearingen and 19-year-old Tyrell James Vance were all taken into custody by the Muncie Police Department Saturday morning.

MPD officers were first dispatched to the 1700 block of South Liberty Street around 2:11 a.m. on a report of a fight. The complainants who called in the fight told dispatchers the brawl may result in gunfire.

Before officers arrived at the scene, shooting had started. According to court documents, police heard gunfire when they made it over to the fight at Liberty Street.

MPD reported that its officers found two subjects who had sustained gunshot injuries when they arrived at the scene. Those individuals were transported to Ball Memorial Hospital. Numerous witnesses and suspects were also taken to the Muncie Police Criminal Investigations Unit for interviews.

Police eventually learned that a party began at a residence in the 1700 block of Liberty Street, but as it grew in size, it spilled out onto a nearby street. Court documents indicate the party also spread to a vacant lot near a residence where it started.

MPD indicated that its investigators found evidence of a fight in the street upon examination of the scene. Broken glass bottles that were allegedly used in the fight, shell casings and blood were all found near the vacant lot the party had stretched into.

While police were speaking with witnesses and suspects, they learned an individual wearing red pants and a black shirt approached the altercation. As he was walking toward the fight, the man pulled a gun out of his waistband and pointed it in the direction of bystanders.

Court records show that the man ultimately discharged his firearm. Witnesses told police the man was Embry and that he was the first to shoot during the incident.

Officers also later identified Embry as one of the shooting victims they found when they arrived at the scene.

At least one other shooter — who was later determined to be Pointer — was involved in the incident. Per court records, Pointer discharged a firearm after Embry began shooting.

Police reporting on the party indicates the other individual who was shot during the incident was a juvenile. Investigators found the juvenile inside the residence where the party was being hosted.

While Swearingen and Vance were not involved in the shooting, police arrested both of them on multiple charges. According to court documents, Swearingen and Vance organized the party and promoted the event on social media.

MPD reported that Swearingen and Vance both admitted that they knew some of the event’s attendees were minors. Both individuals also told police they knew at least one armed subject was present at their party.
