Two Chicago firefighters suffered minor injuries Sunday evening while battling an extra-alarm fire in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, officials said.
The fire at the two-story frame home at 4539 S. Justine St. was called in just after 7:30 p.m. and was upgraded to a 2-11 alarm about 20 minutes later, summoning additional personnel to the scene.
The flames spread to an adjacent home, but fire crews were able to bring it under control and officially struck it out around 9:20 p.m., fire officials said on their Twitter account.
No residents were reported injured, but two firefighters were taken to Stroger Hospital for minor injuries, fire officials said. They were both listed in good condition. The cause of the injuries were unclear.
Fire crews remained on the scene Sunday evening checking for hot spots that could reignite.
