SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — Two Sioux Falls men were arrested Tuesday morning after a chase on the East Side of the city, according to Sioux Falls police.
According to Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens, 22-year-old Omot Karlo was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a former drug offender, possession of marijuana and fleeing police.
Also arrested was 21-year-old Abenezer Madebo, who faces charges of fleeing police, aggravated eluding, reckless driving, DWI, possession of marijuana and a few other traffic violations, according to Clemens.
The charges came from a report of a man threatening someone with a handgun on East 10th Street Tuesday morning. The man with the gun left the scene and drove away. The victim gave officials a description of the man with the gun’s car.
According to Clemens, an officer in the area saw a car that matched the description and pursued the car after the driver refused to stop. There was one passenger in the car.
Law enforcement pursued the car to Southeastern Avenue and East 41st Street, where the men drove the car off the road after a mechanical failure, Clemens said. The men fled on foot and the passenger was found with a handgun.
Officials could not confirm whether the chase or handgun is in connection to the original report.
“We believe these two were probably involved with the aggravated assault but we don’t have any charges relating to that at this point,” Clemens said at police briefing.
