The Tennessee Titans waited a day before shaking up the NFL landscape.

On Tuesday, owner Amy Adams Strunk made the decision to move on from general manager Ran Carthon after two seasons running the franchise’s front office. The Titans will now begin the search for a new general manager.

The Titans were 9-25 in Carthon’s two seasons, including a 3-14 record in 2024 that earned the team the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft.  President of football operations Chad Brinker will head up the search for a new general manager.

Here is a list of some of the candidates for the position.

Chad Brinker is heading up the search, but nothing says that he wouldn’t want more control of the organization. It is ironic because it was Carthon who brought Brinker to the organization after a long stint in Green Bay. A move like this could allow for a smooth transition, especially if head coach Brian Callahan is to be retained, so it is definitely a possibility.

Lance Newmark would be an interesting candidate. He has 28 years of NFL experience, and before his role with the Commanders, he was the senior director of player personnel for Detroit and helped oversee both the college and pro scouting operations. He has a good idea of scouting and roster building and could help transform the Titans’ roster

Brandon Brown is in his third season as the Giants’ assistant general manager and one of the top associates of general manager Joe Schoen. Brown has a history of roster building and was instrumental in the 2022 roster renovation that enabled the Giants to earn their first postseason berth in six years. His history with the Eagles speaks for itself.

Poaching someone from the Philadelphia Eagles could add some stability to the front office. Best known for his work with analytics, Alec Halaby has worked his way up the ladder from an internship to assistant general manager. Giving him experience at all levels of team building.

The Lions are a great team to look to for building a franchise from the bottom. A former NFL player, Ray Agnew has worked his way up the ranks in NFL front offices. After starting out with the Los Angeles Rams in the pro personnel department, he transitioned to the Lions and helped them build their roster into a consistent winning franchise.  Agnew also has a connection to the Titans. His son, Keenan, works in the Titans’ scouting department.

The Chiefs are still at the top of the NFL and longtime Chiefs executive Mike Borgonzi is always a name that comes up in general manager searches. He is also experienced in every facet of the front office and team building and has a winning pedigree.

One of the parts that will weigh heavily in this search is the fate of head coach Brian Callahan. Trey Brown could help ease those concerns. Coming from Cincinnati, Brown knows Callahan and the two could work well together. He has also spent time with New England and Philadelphia and has experience building an NFL roster.

Glenn Cook should be a familiar name to Titans fans, as the team interviewed him before deciding on Carthon. While he hasn’t landed that general manager spot yet, there is a reason he continues to be a hot name in searches. Maybe this is his opportunity.

The Titans have looked to Tampa Bay before with the hiring of Jon Robinson in 2013. Mike Greenberg — not the ESPN personality — has spent 15 years in the Bucs organization at different levels. He also played a big role in building their Super Bowl-winning team.

Looking back at the Lions, Ken Dorsey could be a candidate if the Titans want someone with more experience. He was Kansas City’s general manager from 2013 to 2017 and Cleveland’s from 2017 to 2019. Throughout his career, he has been a solid roster builder who understands what it takes to create culture.
