Pennsylvania is a state known for its great craft beer, so it’s not surprising that there are many fantastic Lehigh Valley breweries.
And, even leaving out the fact that Sam Adams brews much of their beer in a large brewery along I-78 near Allentown, you’ll find some of the state’s best breweries in the Lehigh Valley counties of Lehigh and Northampton (as well as a few great cideries and meaderies, as well).
Having visited many of these over the years, I’ve uncovered a lot of fantastic craft breweries in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, and beyond that any lover of craft beer is sure to enjoy.
Here are a few of my favorites broken down roughly into where they reside within the three main cities in this part of eastern PA.
Breweries in Allentown, PA
During my many visits to the region, I’ve had a chance to visit many great Allentown breweries. Here are a few of my favorite spots in Lehigh County to grab a craft beer.
Brü Daddy’s Brewing Company
Located in the heart of downtown Allentown, you’ll find Brü Daddy’s Brewing Company. And, while this place has more of a restaurant feel to it than a lot of other spots on this list, they also have some pretty fantastic craft beer.
During my visit, I had a chance to try four different beers while sitting at the bar (which has almost uncomfortably tall chairs). I was quite impressed with all four that I tried, though my favorites were the Granddaddy Haze: 4th Edition Imperial IPA and the Port Rye Barrel Aged Odd Quad of Todd.
Of course, Brü Daddy’s offers a large selection of beers, including some very good sours if that’s your thing.
As I said, this spot definitely felt more like a restaurant than a brewery, so, not surprisingly, they have a full menu, with an emphasis on wood-fired pizzas with house-made dough. I opted to try the K-Pop Pizza, which was quite good but didn’t have what I would call authentic Korean flavors.
Brü Daddy’s Brewing Company can be found at 732 Hamilton Street in Allentown.
McCall Collective Brewing Company
McCall Collective Brewing Company is another great spot to check out if you are looking for great Lehigh Valley breweries. This is the first fully-female owned brewery in Allentown and has two locations: one in Allentown and one in Breinigsville.
I had a chance to visit their Southside Allentown location, which appears to be a historic home that has been turned into a brewpub. This definitely gave the place an interesting feel.
During my visit, their menu was rather IPA heavy, though they did have other styles of beer on the menu.
I had a chance to try four beers, three of which were IPAs. Of the four, the standouts were the Three High Triple IPA and the Cinnablonde Bonde Ale (which was brewed with cinnamon donuts, cinnamon, and lactose).
I also had a chance to grab dinner here, and the whiskey burger and fresh-cut fries were both quite delicious.
McCall Collective Brewing Company can be found at 102 East Susquehanna Street in Allentown and at 7743 Hamilton Boulevard in Breinigsville.
Hijinx Brewing Company
Hijinx Brewing Company is located south of downtown Allentown, sandwiched into an industrial strip between Fairview Cemetery and the city’s recycling plant. Interestingly, this strip is also home to a meadery and a winery, so there are beverage options here for just about anyone.
Hijinx’s taproom is located in a large room surrounded by brewing equipment, with tables made primarily of large barrels.
During my visit, there were 12 beers on draft, of which I had a chance to try three in a flight. Of the ones I tried, the Kung Fu Gnome Belgian Blonde was my favorite. I also really enjoyed the Wicked Wheat White Beer, which reminded me of a better version of Blue Moon.
Note that Hijinx Brewing doesn’t offer food, but does periodically have food trucks outside.
Hijinx Brewing Company can be found at 905 Harrison Street in Allentown.
Yergey Brewing Company
Yergey Brewing Company can be found in Emmaus, a short distance southwest of Allentown.
Since my visit in the summer of 2021, they’ve moved from a small, garage-like space to a large space in the heart of Emmaus. So, while that means I can’t really comment on the current taproom’s vibe, I can still talk about the beers that I had there.
During my visit, they had eight different beers on draft, which covered a nice range of styles. I was able to try four of these beers in my flight. It should be noted that they also seem to offer more beers now that they are in their new location.
I was impressed by the uniqueness of some of their beers, including the Simply Chocolate Porter with an optional habanero extract addition and the Saison d’être Farmhouse Saison, which was brewed with black pepper and spices.
Yergey Brewing doesn’t offer food, but they do appear to have food trucks regularly.
Yergey Brewing Company can be found at 235 Main Street in Emmaus.
Sherman Street Beer Company
Sherman Street Beer Company sits almost exactly halfway between Allentown and Bethlehem, making this a fantastic craft brewery to visit from either city. It’s also one of the newest Allentown breweries, having first opened in April 2021.
I had a chance to visit this brewery a few months after it opened. During my visit, they had ten beers on draft, of which I was able to try five in my flight.
Given that they had only just recently opened, I was quite impressed with the quality of their beer. Highlights included their Blueberry Ale, Hop Next IPA, and the Norwegian Double IPA.
While I didn’t have a chance to try any food during my visit, Sherman Street offers a small selection of food including paninis and hot dogs.
Sherman Street Beer Company can be found at 1825 East Tremont Street in Allentown.
Funk Brewing
Located south of Allentown in Emmus, Funk Brewing is a delicious spot to check out when looking for the best Lehigh Valley breweries.
In the nature of full disclosure, I’ve only visited their second location in Elizabethtown (which is one of my favorite breweries in Lancaster County), but having visited that location several times, I feel certain that their original location in Lehigh County is just as good.
During my visits, I’ve had a chance to try a number of their beers with the Silent Disco IPA, Double Citrus IPA, and their nice selection of sours being highlights.
Funk Brewing can be found at 518 Bank Street in Emmaus, PA. They have a second location in Lancaster County at 28 South Market Street in Elizabethtown.
Breweries in Bethlehem, PA
Located just east of Allentown, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania might be best known as Christmas City USA. However, if you love craft beer, there are some really nice options to check out here.
Fegley’s Brew Works
Fegley’s Brew Works actually spans both of these lists and could be listed among both the breweries in Bethlehem and the ones in Allentown as they have locations in both cities. However, since their first location is the one in Bethlehem, I listed them here.
Fegley’s Brew Works first opened in 1998 and was part of the revitalization of downtown Bethlehem, PA. They offer a large list of beers, along with a full food menu. And, having eaten here several times, I cant definitely attest to this being a nice spot to great a meal.
As for beer, I’ve tried several here over the years, with my favorite being their seasonal Rude Elf’s Reserve (and its bourbon-barrel-aged cousin) which is only offered during the holiday season. I’ve also really liked the Hop’solutely Triple IPA and the Blueberry Belch Fruit Beer.
Fegley’s Brew Works can be found at 559 Main Street in Bethlehem and at 812 Hamilton Street in Allentown.
Lost Tavern Brewing
Lost Tavern Brewing is one of my personal favorite craft breweries in the Lehigh Valley and has two locations: one in downtown Bethlehem and one in Hellertown.
Lost Tavern features a wide variety of tasty brews, including excellent sours, stouts, and IPAs. You seriously can’t go wrong with any of the beers here, but the Gelosto: Kiwi Strawberry Smoothie Sour and the Short Hops New England IPA are two of the best beers I’ve had in the region.
I’ve only been to their Bethlehem location, which is located directly next to the popular Moravian Bookstore, but both locations offer the same delicious beer, so you really can’t go wrong with either spot.
Lost Tavern Brewing can be found at 782 Main Street in Hellertown and at 444 Main Street in Bethlehem.
Seven Sirens Brewing
Seven Sirens Brewing is another incredibly delicious spot in Bethlehem and is home to more of my favorite beers in the region.
This brewery is located on the city’s South Side in a taproom with a very cool open space, as well as a bit of outdoor seating.
I had a chance to try five beers during my visit, including some very inventive beers from a wide range of styles. While all five of the beers I tried were quite good, my personal favorites were the Operation Oreo Pastry Stout, the Mango Chariot Fruited Wheat, and the Orange Skies Belgian Wit.
Honestly, though, you really can’t go wrong with anything here from my experience.
Seven Sirens also has an Easton location known as The Blendary, but I haven’t been there yet to comment on it.
Seven Sirens Brewing can be found at 327 Broadway in Bethlehem and at 1247 Simon Boulevard in Easton.
Wishful Thinking Brewing
Wishful Thinking Brewing is another great brewery in Bethlehem and is located in a unique and cozy space is a more residential part of the city.
During my visit, Wishful Thinking Brewing only had four of their own beers on draft, two lagers and two IPAs. I was able to try all four and found all four of them to be quite delicious, even though I’m not much of a lager drinker.
What sets this spot apart from the others both in the Lehigh Valley and throughout Pennsylvania, is that they are the first brewery in the US to use LUKR taps from the Czech Republic. These taps give their beer a very large foam head, which I found to be quite enjoyable.
Wishful Thinking is also one of the few Bethlehem breweries that offers in-house food, so make sure to save room for their delicious-looking Detroit-style pizza.
Wishing Thinking Brewing can be found at 702 Broadway in Bethlehem, PA.
Hop Hill Brewing
Hop Hill Brewing can be found in an industrial building a short distance south of Bethlehem. However, despite the industrial feel of the exterior, the interior of the brewery has a nice and cozy feeling.
This is one of my favorite Lehigh Valley breweries, and they offer a really nice mix of beers. In fact, they had 12 different options on draft during my visit of which I was able to try four.
My favorite of the trip was The Shakes Milkshake IPA, which is brewed with lemon drops, which gave it almost a lemon meringue flavor. I also really enjoyed the Honey Porter, which had a unique flavor combination of honey and chocolate.
Hop Hill doesn’t offer food, but they do have food trucks quite frequently.
Hop Hill Brewing can be found at 1988 Blair Avenue in Bethlehem.
Country Club Brewing
Country Club Brewing is one of several great breweries in South Bethlehem.
This Lehigh Valley brewery occupies a rather small space, but it’s quite nicely set up and there are large windows that open when the weather is agreeable.
During my visit, I had a chance to try two beers, and since there tap list was heavily populated by IPAs and stouts, I gave one of each a try. I was definitely impressed with the taste of both but the Got a Wicked Jump Shot Stout, which was brewed with Mexican cinnamon, Papa New Guinea vanilla, and Vermont maple syrup, was a real stand out.
Country Club Brewing is located at 323 Pierce Street in Bethlehem, PA.
Bonn Place Brewing
Bonn Place Brewing is located just a few blocks from Country Club Brewing and is also rather small in size. However, that gives it a cozy feel, and it feels more like a neighborhood pub than most breweries do.
During my visit, Bonn Place featured a nice selection of beers without being dominant toward any one style.
I had a chance to try three different beers when I visited, with the Skippy the Bush Kangarooga Double IPA and the Fastnauchtator Doppelbock being standouts.
Bonn Place Brewing is located at 310 Taylor Street in Bethlehem.
Colony Meadery
Colony Meadery can be found in South Bethlehem and serves delicious alcoholic beverages made from honey.
During my visit, there were twelve different meads available, and I was able to try five when I ordered the tallest flight I’ve ever gotten.
Since mead is meant to be sipped, each sample in the flight was only 1 ounce, but that was definitely enough to get a really nice taste of the offerings here. My personal favorites were the Straight No Chaser (which is said to be their best seller) and the 911 is Oak.
It’s worth noting that there isn’t much in the way of ambiance in the space, but the chance to try their delicious meads makes this a great place to visit.
Colony Meadery can be found at 211 East 3rd Street in Bethlehem.
Five Maidens Cider Company
Five Maidens Cider Company is located within an industrial building only a short walk from Bonn Place Brewing and Country Club Brewing, making it an easy spot to visit if you’re checking out the breweries in Bethlehem.
During my visit, they had 14 different ciders on draft, including many that have won awards at the U.S. Open Cider Championships.
I had a chance to try four of their offerings, with the standouts being the Semi Sweet and the Ms. Jackson.
The space here isn’t overly large, but it does balance a nice homey feel with an industrial feel since you are setting next to the equipment.
Five Maidens Cider Company can be found at 327 Polk Street in Bethlehem.
Breweries in Easton, PA
Located along the Delaware River, just across from New Jersey, Easton is the third-largest city in the Lehigh Valley. However, if you love craft beer, you’ll definitely want to check out this area as it is home to two of my favorite breweries in the Lehigh Valley.
Weyerbacher Brewing Company
Weyerbacher Brewing Company is located in Southside Easton just off of I-78 and is housed in an industrial building at the end of a residential street.
They first opened in 1995, and they are likely both the oldest and the largest brewery in the Lehigh Valley. However, despite their size, their taproom space is small enough to feel rather intimate.
Weyerbacher features a full line of delicious beers, but they are best known for their Blithering Idiot Barleywine and Merry Monks Belgian Tripel. If you want to see how these beers are made, they offer excellent brewery tours every weekend.
Weyerbacher Brewing Company can be found at 905 Line Street in Easton.
Two Rivers Brewing Company
While Weyerbach might be better known, if you are looking for great breweries in Easton, PA, make sure you don’t miss Two Rivers Brewing Company.
Two Rivers Brewing Company is located just west of Easton’s Centre Square in a stately red-brick building. They typically have about a dozen beers on draft, of which I was able to try five during my visit.
Of those that I tried, my favorites were the Rover Red Ale and Left Eye IPA.
Two Rivers also features a full food menu, and I really quite enjoyed the meal that I had there with my family. The star of the show was their excellent Belgian Frites (which are cooked in duck fat), but my burger was also quite good.
Two Rivers Brewing can be found at 542 Northampton Street in Easton. They also have a location in Quakertown if you find yourself exploring Upper Bucks County.
Boser Geist Brewing
Located just north of downtown Easton in the restored Simon Silk Mill, you’ll find Boser Geist Brewing.
This brewery is located in a very cool spot with huge windows and an industrial yet inviting space. This is definitely one of the coolest breweries I’ve visited in PA in regard to the setting and architecture.
During my visit, I had a chance to try four of the 14 beers on draft. Highlights included the Great White Buffalo Imperial Stout and the Full Send Double IPA. That being said, the beer here was just average, and while I really enjoyed visiting for the space, I’d visit one of the two in Easton listed above if you only have time to check out one or two spots in the city.
However, if you love restored factory architecture or are simply looking for a new spot to check out, this is definitely a nice option.
Boser Geist Brewing can be found at 1250 Simon Boulevard k100 in Easton, PA.
